KYALAMI STILL ON TRACK FOR AN EXCITING 2010

Kyalami – still on track for an exciting 2010

The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is on track for an exciting and action-packed 2010 motor sport, events and exhibition season.

The facility situated in Midrand remains in great demand with a full programme booked both on and off the circuit.

The circuit is at present finalising plans for at least two international events in 2010. The sixth round of the World Superbike Championship (SBK) is scheduled to be held at Kyalami from the 14 to 16 May. An announcement regarding ticket sales and hospitality packages is expected shortly (watch the press for details).

The withdrawal of Gauteng Provincial Government support for the international events from 2011 is a disappointment. The decision, announced yesterday, does not however mean the end of the road for international events at the circuit. It is expected that after the event on 16 May discussions with various entities could well see the return of World Superbikes and possibly other international racing series in 2011. Kyalami also celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2011; the original circuit was built in 1961 with its current configuration constructed in the early 1990s.

The exciting Italian-based Superstars V8 Series is planned to return in November at a date yet to be confirmed. The circuit was scheduled to host a round of A1GP in February, however as a result of the reported demise of the series the event was removed from the Kyalami calendar.

The circuit will still host another two rounds of the WesBank Super Series. Round one of the premier national circuit racing series was held on Saturday, 20 February.

Kyalami will also host round five on 5 June and the final round of the championship on 27 November. The WesBank Super Series will also visit Killarney (Cape Town), Zwartkops (Pretoria), Phakisa (Welkom) as well as Port Elizabeth and East London.

The ever expanding ProTour Series will visit Kyalami twice in 2010, on 31 July and the final round on 13 November.

Kyalami will host various regional races in 2010, including a historic event on 18 September and at least one motorcycle regional on 3 September .The SCC  9 Hour Revival meeting returns to Kyalami on 4 and 5 December. The historic meeting is growing in popularity and is sure to attract a record national and international entry.

Other events confirmed at Kyalami are the Outdoor Expo from 28 to 30 May and the annual Ferrari Club (SEFAC) event in July. Kyalami also hosts various events for the BMW Club, Porsche Club, Investment Cars as well as numerous superbike schools.

The circuit operates daily and permanently hosts three driving schools as well as companies specialising in corporate motor sport and track events.

The Kyalami Conference and Exhibition facilities are in the process of being relaunched. The exciting and dynamic venue is expected to host various events during the Soccer World Cup.
