There are many famous names in the world of motorsport that trigger excitement in the hearts and minds of motorsport enthusiasts.

If one mentions the names of Ferrari, Porsche, Bently, Jaguar, Lotus and Mercedes Benz (to name only a few) the image of a fast loud racing car comes to mind, passing in a frantic blur of speed, colour and sound.

Likewise, Stewart, Fangio, Clark, Lauda, Prost, Mansell, Senna and Schumacher bring to mind great champions, modern gladiators that have conquered their peers, the best of their era and champions of the world, often paying the ultimate price to achieve immortal, hero status.

A black strip of tar is all that these famous cars and drivers have in common. Without a race circuit the early pioneers of the sport could not have fulfilled their dreams of glory and victory. The track has immortalized both the drivers and the cars and in doing so, has become immortal itself. These great tracks include Monza, Silverstone, Monte Carlo, Indianapolis, and the list goes on.

Kyalami is one such circuit. It will be a circuit that’s forever linked to the history of the sport. It is the circuit that saw the great champions of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s demonstrate their skill and courage in the Southern tip of Africa.

This strip of tar, although changed over the years, is still more famous than any other in Africa. It is still synonymous with motorsport, fast cars, great drivers and is still a symbol of racing, long after the great champions ceased to visit African shores.

Kyalami has survived and its future is secure.

Kyalami is set to regain its rightful place on the international motorsport calendars of the world as it moves towards its 50th anniversary in 2011.
